Tysdal 'on schedule' with rehab

Dave Tysdal is learning to drive using hand controls as part of his recovery process, the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department shared Friday.

Dave Tysdal is making steady progress with his rehabilitation therapies after making a full recovery from a "serious blood infection" that resulted in sepsis, the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department shared in an update Thursday.
Tysdal, a Coeur d'Alene fire engineer, was shot during the June 29 shooting on Canfield Mountain, resulting in serious injuries and loss of movement in his legs.
Tysdal was transported from Kootenai Health to a specialty out-of-state rehab facility in July.
"His upper body continues to get stronger," CDAFD said in a social media post.
As part of Tysdal's recovery, he is learning to drive using hand controls.
Tysdal can be seen smiling behind the wheel of a car with a "student driver" decal in a photo shared to social media by CDAFD.
"Dave was a natural," the post read.
CDAFD also said the Tysdal family is grateful for the continued prayers and well wishes from the community, noting the family "still (has) a long road of healing ahead."
