PREP ROUNDUP: Kellogg ties for fifth, Post Falls ninth at Crossover

• VOLLEYBALL

SPOKANE — The Kellogg Wildcats finished tied for fifth, and the Post Falls Trojans were ninth out of 64 teams at the Sheridan-Welch Crossover Classic on Saturday. 

In pool play, Kellogg beat Cheney 25-19, 21-25, 15-6, Chiawana 16-25, 25-15, 15-8 and East Valley-Yakima 25-13, 25-22. 

In the Gold Bracket, Kellogg beat Central Valley 25-23, 27-25 before falling to eventual champion Gonzaga Prep 25-18, 25-14.  

Post Falls, in pool play, beat Asotin 25-15, 25-11, Deer Park 25-17, 26-24 and Eastmont 25-16, 25-20. 

In the Gold Bracket, Post Falls lost 25-19, 25-22 to Chelan, which finished tied for third with Mead. The Trojans bounced back to beat Kennewick 25-13, Kamiakin 25-20 and Mt. Spokane 25-20 to win the consolation title. 

Junior Teresa Smith had 25 kills and 32 digs on the day for Post Falls (12-5). Lucy Carr had 54 assists, Claire Ziegler eight aces, Mia Carr 32 digs, Rylie Gump 10 blocks, Reese DeGraw-Tryall seven blocks for the Trojans.  

“We had a pretty good tournament," Post Falls coach Matt Barkley said. “We handled our bracket well, fighting back against a pesky Deer Park team. Then in tournament play we ran into a great Chelan team that hit a real heavy and hard ball." 

Post Falls plays at Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday in the Volleyball 4 The Cure match for cancer awareness. 

Lakeland went 4-3 and finished 41st. 

In pool play, the Hawks beat Colville 25-12, 25-16, lost to Mead 25-23, 25-21 and lost to Sehome 25-22, 25-17.  

In the Bronze bracket, Lakeland lost to Jackson 25-22, 23-25, 15-7, then beat Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 25-14, Sageview 25-10 and Eisenhower 25-19.  

Against Colville, Alyssa Ryckman had five kills, Chloe Neff six digs, Kindell Day nine assists, Jaeli Hoffman seven assists, Anabel Bowie three blocks, Raygen Dutton four aces for Lakeland (7-8). 

Against Mead, Ryckman had 10 kills, Neff six digs, Hoffman 10 assists and two aces, Day seven assists, Dutton four blocks. 

Against Sehome, Ryckman had five kills and eight digs before leaving with a knee injury. Hoffman had six kills and seven assists, Dutton three blocks and two aces, Day eight assists. 

Against Jackson, freshman Shasta Ackerman had four aces for Lakeland. Hoffman had nine assists and three blocks, Day eight assists and six kills, Neff seven digs. 

Against Lakeside, freshman Maddi Justesen had five kills, Neff five digs, Dutton four blocks, Hoffman five assists, Day two aces. 

Against Sageview, Hoffman and Day had six assists each, Dutton had three kills and two blocks, Ackerman three aces, Emma Beaty five digs. 

Against Ike, Hoffman had eight assists, Neff five digs, Bowie three blocks, Ackerman three aces, Dutton four kills. 

Lakeland plays host to Timberlake on Tuesday. 

Sandpoint went 3-2 and tied for 21st. 

In pool play, the Bulldogs lost to Graham-Kapowsin 25-12, 18-25, 15-9, then beat East Valley 25-17, 25-17 and Riverside Christian 25-19, 25-19. 

In the Silver Bracket, Sandpoint beat 5A Inland Empire League foe Moscow 21-25, 25-14, 15-9, then lost to Eastmont 25-12, 22-25, 16-14.

POST FALLS — Junior midfielder Taylor Smith had a goal and two assists in the first half for the Panthers in an Intermountain League win over the Maniacs at The Fields at Real Life. 

“I was very pleased with our play today,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Craig Daigle said. “We possessed the ball for a large majority of the game. Taylor played very calm today and picked apart the defense. Defensively, we made one mistake and gave up a decent shot on goal, but Mattis (Macmillan) had our backs with a nice diving save.” 

Coeur d’Alene Charter (10-0, 6-0 IML) hosts Bonners Ferry on Wednesday at The Fields at Real Life.

Eggleston leads Timberlake girls

to team title at Lakeside meet

NINE MILE FALLS — Timberlake junior Lola Eggleston won the girls 5,000-meter race at the Lake Spokane Invitational, finishing in 19 minutes, 24.60 seconds to lead the Tigers to the team title at Lakeside High. 

Senior Vanessa McLachlan (second) and junior Emily Wright (ninth) finished in the top 10 for Timberlake, which finished with 39 points, with Lakeside (Wash.) finishing second with 55. 

Timberlake junior Caleb Royce was runner-up in the boys race in 16:15.10, leading the Tiger boys to the team title with 48 points. Mead was second with 51 points.
