Priest River 3, Newport 2

NEWPORT — Senior Jayda Storro set up a career-high 45 assists, junior Raygn Turner produced a career-high 20 kills and junior Callie Stanger served up a career-high four aces as the Lady Spartans outlasted the Lady Grizzles in a five-set, non-league border battle (25-21, 21-25, 25-15, 22-25, 15-10) to extend their winning streak to nine games Monday at Newport High.

Sophomore McKinley Burgess-Duquette added a career-high 14 kills of her own while Storro, Turner and senior Kenadie Kingery recorded three aces each for Priest River, which went on a 17-3 run to close out the third set and used a late 6-2 run to capture the fifth set.

Defensively, Stanger collected a team-high six digs while Turner and senior Toni Marinello tallied five apiece. Kingery and senior Aleigha Jensen each posted three blocks in the winning effort.

Priest River (12-1) will look to avenge their only loss of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 7 when they head to Kellogg for a 3A Central Idaho League matchup.

Mire assists Sandpoint to three wins at Sheridan-Welch

SPOKANE — Freshman Averi Mire, who surpassed 100 career assists last week in a game against Lewiston, recorded a team-high 54 assists that helped the Lady Bulldogs win three of their five three-set games to place tied for 21st out of 64 schools at the Sheridan-Welch Crossover Classic tournament held Friday and Saturday at various Greater Spokane Area high schools.

In pool play, Sandpoint lost to Graham-Kapowsin 25-12, 18-25, 15-9, then beat East Valley 25-17, 25-17 and Riverside Christian 25-19, 25-19. In the Silver Bracket, the Lady Bulldogs beat 5A Inland Empire League foe Moscow 21-25, 25-14, 15-9, then lost to Eastmont 25-12, 22-25, 16-14. 

Offensively, senior Belen Gonzales registered a team-high 29 kills and sophomore Breecyn Morton served up eight aces across all five games. Defensively, senior Hazel Pierce tallied a team-high five blocks and senior Gretta Beck had a team-high 31 digs.

Sandpoint (6-8) travels to Moscow on Tuesday, Oct. 7, for a 5A Inland Empire League matchup.

Coeur du Christ 3, Clark Fork 1

COEUR d'ALENE — Freshman Kiylah Anderson surpassed 300 career assists as she tallied a team-high 32 dimes and a team-high 14 digs as the Lady Cats dropped a non-league game to the Lady Saints (25-20, 29-27, 21-25, 28-26) on Monday night at Holy Family Catholic School.

Senior Aurora Lane registered a season-high 17 kills, a team-high six aces and 10 digs while junior Nora-Jean Hoy and freshman Vanessa Rogier tallied 10 kills apiece. Senior Piper Scarlett recorded 12 digs for the Lady Cats in the back-and-forth effort.

Clark Fork (6-7) hosts Kootenai for a non-league matchup Saturday.
