COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: Zimmerman puts together another pair of multi-hit efforts

Jack Zimmerman, Lassen College Baseball
A 2023 graduate of Sandpoint High, Jack, a left-handed outfielder and redshirt sophomore, went a combined 4-for-11 with four runs scored, an RBI single, and a walk as the Cougars swept the College of the Redwoods (9-1; 3-2; 17-5) during a three-game home series on March 27 and 28. The former Bulldog standout, batting .347 (33-for-95) on the season to go along with a .456 on-base percentage and 12 stolen bases, also had a combined two hits, four runs scored, and three walks during a three-game sweep of the College of the Siskyous (12-6; 13-1; 9-7) on March 20 and 21. Lassen College (19-12), which is on a six-game winning streak, will host Shasta College for single games today and tomorrow and will travel to the Knights on April 3 to round out the series.
Colin Roos, Salt Lake CC Baseball
A 2023 graduate of Sandpoint High, Colin, a 6-foot-6-inch right-handed pitcher and redshirt sophomore, was credited with another win during a 15-2 victory over Utah State Eastern on March 27. The former Bulldog standout, who holds a 3.91 ERA on the year, scattered 10 hits and two earned runs across 4.1 innings of work and didn't allow a walk as he struck out one batter and forced eight groundouts. Salt Lake CC (22-9), which split the four-game series with the Eagles, will continue Scenic West Athletic Conference play with a four-game series at the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls from April 2 through 4.
Drew Lehman, Columbia Basin College Baseball
A 2025 graduate of Sandpoint High, Drew, a freshman infielder and outfielder, went 2-for-4 with an RBI single, an RBI double, two runs scored and two walks as the Hawks beat Spokane CC by a score of 13-6 in the opener of their doubleheader with the Sasquatch on March 28. The former Bulldog standout, batting .266 (25-for-94) on the year to go along with a .386 on-base percentage, also went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI triple in a 12-2 home win over Lower Columbia on March 20. Columbia Basin (14-12), which is on a three-game winning streak, hosts Wenatchee Valley today and travels to Wenatchee Valley on April 4.
Bailey Lancaster, Principia College Softball
A 2025 graduate of Sandpoint High, Bailey, a freshman catcher and first baseman, went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, a two-run double — the first of her career — and three RBIs in total in a 29-4 home over Maranatha Baptist University on March 26. The former Lady Bulldog standout, batting .269 on the season (7-for-26) to go along with a .345 on-base percentage, was also 1-for-3 with four runs scored and an RBI single in the Panthers' 24-8 opening-game win over the Sabercats. Principia (3-7) hosted Webster University for a doubleheader yesterday and will travel to the Mississippi University for Women for a doubleheader on Saturday as they continue St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
Asha Abubakari, Sacramento State University Track & Field
A 2024 graduate of Bonners Ferry High, Asha, a redshirt freshman thrower, placed eighth out of 31 competitors in the discus throw with a mark of 147 feet, 11 inches at the Bob Larson & Jim Bush Legends meet hosted by UCLA on March 27 and March 28. The former Lady Badger standout was also 21st in the shot put (39 feet, 3 inches) for the Hornets, which will have athletes competing at a variety of different meets between April 1 and April 4 at the University of Texas, the University of California, Stanford University, and Chabot College.
Taylor Mire, Lewis-Clark State College Golf
A 2025 graduate of Sandpoint High, Taylor, a freshman, registered a 28-over-par 244 (77-80-87) across three rounds to finish tied for 46th out of 89 golfers at the Dalton State Lady Roadrunner Spring Invite held March 30 and 31 at the Nob North Golf Course in Cohutta, Ga. The former Lady Bulldog standout fired in 24 pars in total and five birdies, four of which came during her tied for team-best 5-over-par 77 first round, for the Lady Warriors, which placed seventh out of 16 scoring teams. Lewis-Clark State College returns to action on April 13 and 14 for the Warner Pacific University "Tournament of Knights" Invitational set to be held at the Glendoveer Golf Course in Portland, Ore.
Avery Bayer, Idaho State University Golf
A 2024 graduate of Bonners Ferry High, Avery, a sophomore, carded a 42-over-par 255 (89-86-80) across three rounds to finish tied for 53rd out of 67 golfers at the Bermuda Triangle Collegiate Invitational held March 30 and 31 at Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, Bermuda. The former Lady Badger standout turned in 26 pars in total, 10 of which came during her team-best 9-over-par 80 third round, for the Lady Bengals, which placed 10th out 11 scoring teams. Idaho State will host the 2026 Canyon Clash Invitational at the Canyon Springs Golf Course in Twin Falls on April 8.
Gabe Linck, University of Idaho Lacrosse
A 2023 graduate of Sandpoint High, Gabe, a junior attacker, posted a career-high three assists and four groundballs in the Vandals' 10-4 loss to Gonzaga on March 28. Competing in the MCLA's Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League, Linck has now recorded six goals, four assists and 12 groundballs on the year, which includes a four-goal, five-groundball effort in a 25-5 win over Pacific Lutheran on Feb. 6. Idaho (1-4) hosts Washington State on Friday, April 10 and will close out the regular season at Chico State on April 18 and at St. Mary's on April 19.
