Negotiations were completed between the North Valley Hospital's board of directors and the management firm Brimm & Associates. According to board chairman Bud Uecker of Whitefish, while Brimm will still provide financial, professional and marketing consultation, the management will now be handled on the local level. Dale Jessup, who became administrator in 1976 when Brim was awarded the management contract, is now officially a North Valley Hospital employee. “I think it was time to make a change. Brimm had done what it could do,” Jessop said. “The board still has security with the financial end, with some continuity.”

Tired of trailing other communities in air, water and sewer quality, the Whitefish City Council was vowing to take the lead in city-wide recycling. The council unanimously decided to begin selecting public drop off sites for recyclables. The city plans to place bins for plastics, cardboard, aluminum and other recyclables at six or fewer locations. North Valley Refuse owner Ben Cohen would empty the bins. Cohen presented the council with artist renditions of recycling stations. He proposed the city poor 6-by-30-foot concrete slabs to place the bins on. Servicing the sites would cost about $290.00 a month, City Manager Dale Ennor said.

The Whitefish Volunteer Fire Department responded to a house fire on KM Ranch Road that turned out to be a home Governor Brian Schweitzer sold to a California family. The large log home is a total loss, according to Fire Chief Dave Sipe. The fire department received the call at approximately 3:15 a.m. from a resident who was outside with her dog. The department sent 12 firefighters to the scene in two engines with an ambulance. The home was unoccupied and had no furniture in it because the new residents were remodeling before moving in.

Slalom Run off Chair 2 at Whitefish Mountain Resort has been renamed Nice Day to honor Martin Hales’ years of support for youth ski racing in the Flathead Valley. Dale was a national junior champion ski racer and later a coach, mentor and longtime ski school director at Big Mountain. He was inducted into the Hall into the Flathead Ski Heritage Centre Hall of Fame with the inaugural class of 2014. The name Nice Day refers back to when Hale was head of the ski school, explained Tim Hinderman, executive director of the Flathead Valley Ski Education Foundation. “We'd have ski trains come into Whitefish from Seattle or Chicago and it'd be Murphy's law that we'd have horrible weather as they got off the train,” Hinderman said. “The skiers would come into the ski school like wet dogs and Martin would be standing there with a big smile and say, “Nice day!”
