Thompson Falls golf coach Doree Thilmony says her squad has a little bit of everything in their lineup as her squad heads into season play, beginning with a dual match at the Wild Horse course east of Plains Thursday.
“We truly have a mixed bag for our team this season,” Thilmony said describing a situation where she has players of all experience levels. “Some have never played, some played and got better last year, and some have high expectations based on what they have accomplished already.”
Senior Solveig Nygaard, who finished 11th individually in the State B tournament and earned All-State B honors last spring, and her junior teammate Aubrey Baxter, who missed playing last year with a knee injury, are two of the most accomplished Hawk golfers going into season play.
Another senior Blake Shusterman, who advanced to the State B tourney last year, looks to repeat that feat while leading the Thompson Falls boys. Freshman Tristan Kelly has also impressed Thilmony in early season practice.
Nygaard and Baxter lead the Hawk girls golferS, and freshmen Kayla Fausett, Vienna Drak and Catherine Shear and eighth grader Kelci McGillis round out the squad.
Senior Blake ShustermAn, sophomores Billy Detlaff and Jayden Hedahl, freshmen Nathan Baxter, Kelly, Grady Dana, Lane Thilmony and Allen McGann, and eighth graders Jonathan Toyias and Chase Geigling comprise the roster for the Hawk boys.
The Baxter kids, Aubrey and Nathan, are doubling up in sports this spring as both are also competing in track and field.
“Aubrey has been chomping at the bit, she’s really anxious to play some golf,” Thilmony said adding that she is happy to have both Baxters with her on the golf team attempting the difficult spring-sport double.
