Carl Joseph Eby of Snohomish, Washington, passed away on February 27, 2026. He had a five-month battle with a rare fast-growing cancer that had no treatment options. His devout Christian faith carried him through this rough time, and he said he would meet up in heaven with his family and friends.

Carl was born on December 12, 1950, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. He was the fourth of seven children born to Fay and Janice Eby. He was raised in a logging and farming family on Meadow Creek Road. Carl and his brother Leonard started working on the farm and logging operation at a very young age. Carl was hooking tongs for skidding and loading by the time he was 12 years old.

Carl was a graduate of Bonners Ferry High School in the Class of 1970. Shortly after high school he went to work for Louisiana Pacific Lumber Company in Moyie Springs. He held several positions at the mill including dry chain stacker to forklift driver.

While working at the sawmill Carl decided to give house construction a try. He worked weekends and holidays; eventually making construction his primary job. He built over 30 houses in the Bonners Ferry and Troy, Montana, area. During a downturn in construction, he returned to gypo logging to make a living for a short period of time. He married Rosemary Swartz in 1978.

Carl moved his family to Everett, Washington, in 1988 to pursue a job in construction. He quickly moved into the position of project manager. His career took him all over the country on large commercial construction. Carl’s work included Oregon, Washington, California, North Carolina, Colorado, Idaho and Alaska. He especially loved working in Alaska. One of his jobs involved the expansion of Fairbanks Airport. His career later had him building and remodeling numerous Fred Meyer and Starbucks stores.

Carl enjoyed gold panning, fishing and had lots of stories of fishing and panning in Alaska waters. He also would often return to North Idaho for huckleberry picking with his Idaho family.

Carl had a very generous caring nature and was often found sharing his knowledge, labor, and resources with others. He was a talented individual and seemed to be able to fix almost anything.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents; father, Fay Eby; and brother, Floyd Eby.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Rosemary; three children, Roger, Stephenie and Joseph; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Janice Eby; sisters, Barbara (Howard) Stearns, Linda (Wayne) Young, and Irene Shayen; and brothers, Leonard (Edna) Eby and David Eby; as well as dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering is planned for a later date.
