Play Smarter Kids to offer summer camps at fairgrounds

Play Smarter Kids will offer a series of themed summer camps for children at the Boundary County Fairgrounds, beginning June 8 and running through Aug. 28.
The camps, designed for students entering first through fifth grade, will run Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Families may enroll for the full summer or select individual weeks based on their schedules.
Founded by Marissa Sumpter, Play Smarter Kids is a state-licensed preschool and mobile enrichment program serving children ages 2 to 10. The program offers preschool and kindergarten programs, classes, summer camps and workshops in Bonners Ferry.
“Many children experience what is known as the summer slide, or a decline in math and reading skills during the summer months,” Sumpter said. “Our camps are designed to keep kids learning in a fun and engaging way while also providing care options for working families.”
This marks the program’s first year offering summer camps in Bonners Ferry, though Sumpter has been developing and teaching camps for more than a decade. Play Smarter Kids previously operated in the Houston area, partnering with schools and organizations to provide enrichment programs for thousands of students.
Each week will feature a different theme, with activities centered around creative, hands-on learning. Camp offerings include projects such as building rockets, exploring cultures through cooking, and participating in scavenger hunts.
A typical day includes structured camp activities, outdoor play and enrichment sessions focused on subjects such as science, art, music, robotics and nature.
In addition to educational activities, some camps will include opportunities for children to give back to the community. During select weeks, campers will create items such as lemonade or baked goods to sell, with proceeds donated to local charities.
The program maintains low teacher-to-student ratios, and all staff are required to pass background checks and maintain first aid and CPR certification.
Both half-day and full-day options are available. The program provides morning and afternoon snacks, while children are asked to bring lunch.
An informational event, “Play Smarter at the Park,” will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. April 25. Families can meet staff, ask questions and preview camp activities.
Registration is now open. For more information or to sign up, call 208-646-9399 or visit the Play Smarter Kids website.
