100 Years Ago

The Kootenai River near Bonners Ferry needs dredging and a local committee has been formed to help. They had requested $100,000 from Congress and received word this week that they would receive $2,500.

Walter J .Parker of Paradise Valley was runner up in the stump blowing contest last weekend. The prize was 3 boxes of pyrotol powder donated by the Farmer's General Supply Co.

The manager of the Cynide Gold Mining Co., in the Buckhorn district, says samples taken from a lower level show higher values of $34 to the ton.

The county is having trouble finding someone to run the county crusher because it is dirty and noisy.

Special Education students sold paper shamrocks Wednesday to earn money to attend the Special Olympics in Moscow.

After many cancellations due to weather, Jim Stippich finally made it to Felts Field in Spokane to take his private pilot flight test.

Bonners Ferry High School's physical fitness team placed second in the recent physical fitness contests.

In the last decade, Boundary County surpassed 10,000 residents, according to 2010 census results recently released. In 2000, the population of Boundary County was 9,871, and in 2010 the population was 10,972.

Sue Ireland and Jack Siple both received prestigious awards from the Idaho Chapter of the American Fisheries Society. The ICAFS awarded Sue Ireland the Richard L .Wallace Native Fish Conservationist of the Year Award. Jack Siple was awarded the Excellence in Aquaculture Award.

Pam Hittle, owner of BeeFit in Bonners Ferry, pulled an April Fool's Day prank, forming a flash mob at Safeway with her Zumba fitness class.
