The Flathead Valley chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) announces the Fourth Annual Earth Day Expo, scheduled for Saturday, April 18. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Flathead Valley Community College (FVCC). It is free and open to the public.

This year’s family-friendly event is made possible by Signature Sponsor Northstone Solar.

“Solar energy is no longer a future concept,” said Thomas Clark, chief operating officer with Northstone Solar. “Solar continues to make strong economic sense for homeowners, businesses, and communities in our region.”

Featured this year is a live high school debate entitled “Who Pays the Price? A World Schools Debate on Environmental Responsibility.” Talented students from around Montana will participate in a debate on whether investors should be held legally responsible for the environmental impact of the companies they invest in. The student debaters are nationally ranked.

Local High School students will also be featured in a panel discussion “Youth Voices: Shaping Our Shared Future.”

Hands-on-learning activities for kids include color-your-own solar jitter bugs and make-your-own wind energy pin wheels. Art activities include Collage for Earth and Earth Dances. Plus, booths will feature kids’ learning activities for their Passport to Education to qualify for some exciting prize drawings. And returning this year are the crowd favorite: live raptors.

The “Drive the Future Showcase” provides an up-close look at cost-saving electric-powered cars and bikes, along with a school bus and boat, all on-site. Workshops cover solar installation for your home, design choices for ultra-efficient buildings, and how to repair your own trail gear. Platinum Sponsor Pioneer Heating & Cooling and other local experts will be on-site to provide attendees with actionable ways to lower utility costs.
