Gray Grantham, 73

Gray F. Grantham, 73, of Post Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home March 28, 2026.

He was born July 23, 1952, in Phoenix, Ariz., to George and Beverly Grantham. He grew up in Kingman, Ariz., and graduated from Kingman High School in 1970. He began his college education at the University of Arizona and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Texas A&M University in 1976.

During high school, Gray was heavily involved in 4-H and developed a lifelong passion for horses. In his senior year, he raised a prize-winning steer and a young filly named Mandy. While in college, he was a proud member of the Upsilon Alpha chapter of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity at the University of Arizona.

Gray married Tracy A. Guiol on April 15, 1973, in Atherton, Calif.; they later divorced in July 1982.

He began his career in micronutrients at Ralston-Purina and Diamond Shamrock before transitioning to executive roles in Human Resources at multiple companies. Later in life, he shifted careers and became a pharmacy technician, working in that role until his retirement in 2019.

Gray lived in several states throughout his life, including Arizona, Oklahoma, Texas, Southern California and Nevada, before settling in the Pacific Northwest to be closer to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed his retirement years in Northern Idaho near his son and family.

Gray was known for his humor, quick wit, strong work ethic, culinary skills and gift of conversation. He had a deep passion for cooking and entertaining, and he found great joy in making a lasting impact on those around him.

He loved animals — especially horses and dogs — and spent years breeding and raising Great Danes. He passed his love of horses on to his daughter, Jennifer, and granddaughter Ashley. Some of his happiest moments were spent with family, proudly supporting his grandchildren at their sporting events. Most recently, he traveled to Pittsburgh to celebrate the 100th anniversary of his grandfather’s 1925 World Series win with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He is survived by his two children: Cameron Grantham of Spirit Lake, Idaho, and Jennifer Grantham Hermes of Vancouver, Wash., and their spouses, Kandy Grantham and Tracy Hermes. His cherished four grandchildren: Ashley Grantham, Alisa Grantham, Colin Hermes and Dawson Hermes. Also survived by his beloved niece, Heather Grantham Kimball of Kingman, Ariz., her spouse, Greg Kimball, and their son London Kimball. The remaining family includes his cousins, Linda Morrow and Lori Platts, and their families. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Beverly Grantham.
