NIC SOFTBALL: Cardinals swept by CSI to open weekend series

WORLEY — Emily Hanchey, a sophomore from Kimberly High, had a two-out single in the second inning, the lone hit in the first game for North Idaho College in a 7-0 loss to the College of Southern Idaho in a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader at the Marimn Health Coeur Center on Friday.
Maelynn Durham, a sophomore from Gooding High, struck out nine in the opener for NIC, allowing five earned runs.
In the nightcap, CSI shortstop Anslie Yazzie had two hits and five RBIs for the second-place Golden Eagles (20-9, 11-3 SWAC), who have now won nine straight games, and are receiving votes in the latest NJCAA poll.
Freshman Elizabeth Hatch hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth for NIC (12-23, 5-9), which is third in the conference.
The teams play another doubleheader today in Worley starting at noon.
