NIC SOFTBALL: Cardinals let lead slip in opener, get swept by CSI for second straight day

WORLEY — Freshman Elizabeth Hatch hit a three-run home run — her second in as many days — to give North Idaho College a 6-1 lead in the fourth inning before the College of Southern Idaho rallied to win the first game of Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader 8-6 at the Marimn Health Coeur Center on Saturday.
Freshman Maya Parry and freshman Chloe Hearrell had RBI singles in the second inning to give NIC a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Alli Drake singled to score Hearrell to make it 3-1 in the fourth for NIC.
CSI, which received votes in the latest NJCAA poll, scored six runs in the top of the sixth to rally in the first game.
Camryn Guest and Maile Ha’o had three RBIs each in the second game for CSI (22-9, 13-3 SWAC), which swept the four-game weekend series. CSI is second in the conference, trailing Salt Lake (21-7, 14-2) by one game with the two teams set to meet next weekend in Taylorsville, Utah.
Freshman Aspen Roberts hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first in the second game for NIC (12-25, 5-11), which is currently third in the conference. The Cardinals travel to face fourth-place Snow (10-21, 4-12) in doubleheaders next Friday and Saturday in Ephraim, Utah.
