David Lawrence Roose, 70, of Pinehurst, Idaho, passed away April 2, 2026, at Shoshone Medical Center. David was born Nov. 22, 1955, in Kellogg, Idaho, at the old Wardner Hospital, a son of the late Walter and Marjorie (Johnson) Roose.

David graduated from Kellogg High School, Class of 1974 and later joined the U.S. Army for a short stint. Dave participated in wrestling and basketball while in school. In his later years, he became a powerlifter with Silver Valley Fitness, earning several titles under the guidance of coach Tommy Rahm.

He was a mine mechanic for several mines in the Silver Valley and in Elko, Nev., a Journeyman Millwright at a sawmill in Pendleton, Ore., and a mechanic at Silver Mountain.

Dave spent several years as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician for the Kellogg Ambulance Service.

He enjoyed spending quality time with his immediate family, be it at home or out on the river. Dave was known to some as Rooster or Roosie. He liked fishing on most bodies of water, especially with his wife, Kim, and daughter, Ciara, but loved being on the Coeur d’ Alene River. Dave’s love for fly fishing came from his grandfather, father and uncle. Dave, Kim and family, along with many friends, spent wonderful days and nights at their campsite along the banks of the Coeur d’ Alene River. Dave also enjoyed hunting big game, mostly focusing on elk, ATV riding and skiing with his kids.

Dave really liked the holiday family dinners where he would often get to visit with his niece, Melanie, and nephews Clinton, Sean and Hakon Roose, and loved kidding around with his family.

In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his nephew, Sean Roose, and his father-in-law, Lester Merida.

He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Roose of Pinehurst, Idaho; daughters Ciara (Lunden) Herndon of Colville, Wash., and Emily (Theodore) Reed of Kellogg, Idaho; sons Kash (Kailie) Truitt of Pinehurst, Idaho, and Raymond (Jen) Truitt of Kellogg, Idaho. One granddaughter, Inara Herndon of Colville, Wash.; grandsons Warren Reed and Oliver Truitt of Kellogg, Idaho; brothers, Clyde Roose (Lynn) of Kingston, Idaho, and Howard Roose (Susan Allen) Florence, Mont.; mother-in-law Cathy Merida of Smelterville, Idaho; aunt Gloria Merida of Smelterville, Idaho; sister and brother-in-law Pam and Steve Kohn of Pinehurst, Idaho; nieces Melanie Roose of Athol, Idaho, and Darby (Timmy) Sauer of Pinehurst, Idaho; nephews Clinton Roose of Beaverton, Ore., and Hakon Roose of Anthem, Ariz.; great-nephew Jaxon Sauer of Pinehurst, Idaho; and great-niece Wren Sauer of Pinehurst, Idaho.
