David, a senior, beat Jace Waggoner of Tri-Valley by an 18-3 technical fall to win the state 2A 150-pound title at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa on Feb. 28, finishing the season with a 51-1 record. “When he came up short in the finals last year, he doubled down on his effort,” St. Maries coach Dennis Humphrey said. “He put in a lot of offseason work and came into the season with the attitude that nothing less than a state title was acceptable. With effort and hard work, it all came together.”
