The Blue Hawks have been busy bees so far; and the softball business only gets busier for the B-Hawks this week.

Fresh off varsity doubleheaders with Ennis (in Ennis Friday) and with Three Forks (in Thompson Falls Saturday), coach Jared Koskela and his Hawks will now play four varsity games (with JV games following) in six days this week.

The Hawks will host Bonners Ferry Wednesday, will entertain Eureka in their Western B-C opener Friday, will play at Troy Saturday and finally, will visit Sanders County rival Plains Monday.

Playing with a lineup dotted with freshmen and eighth graders, the Hawks are 0-5 but undaunted so far. Thompson Falls has only one senior and three juniors on its roster this season.

“This team wants to play, we will show up no matter who we are playing against,” Koskela said. “We will be fine, there is no pressure on these girls, we just want to go out and keep getting better every day. We do that and I am happy.”

Koskela and his Hawks went into the weekend last week knowing they were up against it as Three Forks was ranked No. 3 and Ennis No. 10 in the most recent State B-C power poll.

After dropping the first game in Ennis 21-4, the Hawks’ highlight of the week came in the second game with the Mustangs, a tough 10-7 win by the home team, where the Blue Hawks battled to the final out.

The Hawks and Mustangs were tied 4-4 after the first inning and through the third before Ennis finally managed to take the lead and hold on from there for the win, although not without difficulty.

“We played them tough the whole way,” Koskela said. "I’m impressed with the girls, they kept playing hard.”

Noxon eighth grader Sydnie Eichert enjoyed a memorable game for the Hawks, pitching all seven innings and allowing only the 10 runs on 13 hits. Additionally, she hit the first home run of her career, according to Koskela a no-doubt tater, to help her own cause.

Audrey Fairbank drew three walks and scored a run in that game, Marley Robinson and Annalise Fairbank both added base hits, hard-hitting Kylie Mercer was two for four with a double, two runs scored and a run batted in, Addy Traver two for four with a run, Kassidy Dana three for four with a run and a run batted in, Nevaeh Christensen one for four with two runs batted in and Borgmann scored a run.

In the first game with Ennis, Mercer hit another double, drove in a run and scored one, Audrey Fairbank scored a hit and two runs, Annalise Fairbank added a run, Traver an RBI and Borgmann and Eichert a hit apiece.

Against Three Forks in the second game, Christensen and Borgmann both hit doubles, Traver added a hit, a run and an RBI, Annalise and Audrey Fairbank a hit and a run each and Robinson a hit, two runs scored and three stolen bases.

In the first game with Three Forks, Annalise Fairbank hit a double and drove in a run, Kassidy also drove in a run and Robinson and Eichert scored runs.
