COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: Rae posts numerous top finishes at Whitworth Peace Meet

Helene Rae, College of Idaho Track & Field
A 2025 graduate of Bonners Ferry High, Helene, a freshman thrower, placed second out 29 competitors in the shot put with a new personal best mark of 46 feet, 4.75 inches, which ranks as No. 2 in program history and No. 4 nationally, at the Whitworth University Peace Meet held April 3 at Puryear Field and Boppell Track. The former Lady Badger standout, who beat out four NCAA Division I and 10 NCAA Division II competitors in the shot put, also placed 11th out of 45 competitors in the hammer throw with a new personal best mark of 146 feet even, beating out five more NCAA Division I and nine more NCAA Division II competitors in the process. The College of Idaho will compete next at the Northwest Nazarene University Open set to be held April 11 in Nampa.
Asha Abubakari, Sacramento State University Track & Field
A 2024 graduate of Bonners Ferry High, Asha, a redshirt freshman thrower, placed 12th out of 15 competitors in the hammer throw with a new personal best mark of 147 feet, 5 inches at the Stanford Invitational held April 3 and 4 at Cobb Track and Angell Field in Palo Alto, Calif. The former Lady Badger standout was also third out of 13 competitors in the discus with a mark of 140 feet, 8 inches and was 10th out of 14 competitors in the shot put with a new collegiate best toss of 41 feet, 9.25 inches. Sacramento State will compete at a variety of invitationals from April 16 through 18 at Long Beach State University, Azusa Pacific University and at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
