The Columbia Falls Community Choir is preparing for their spring concert on Saturday, April 18, at 7 p.m. The concert will be held at Columbia Falls High School in the Little Theatre. Singers come from Columbia Falls, Whitefish, Kalispell, Lakeside, and the Canyon communities.
This year’s concert is titled “Love, Loss, and Light.” Songs from the Love section are songs of romantic love, pastoral love, and love for all people. In the Loss portion of the concert are songs of sadness and grief featuring an a cappella song, TaReKiTa, written for the Los Angeles Urban Voices Project. Reena Esmail, the composer, wrote the piece after working with this unique group of unhoused people. The third section, Light, has songs of renewal, rebuilding, and rebirth after a loss. Songs in the program include “Rise Up, My Love, My Fair One,” “The Sound of Silence” arranged by Mark Hayes, “Ad Astra (To the stars…),” and “Light” from the musical next to normal, which won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a Tony Award for Best Original Score in 2009.
The concert is directed by Catherine Gilk Robinson and accompanied by Dawn Hashley. Freewill offerings and donations are appreciated and accepted to help defray the cost of the high school rental and new music.
