NIC: More thanks for new board of trustees
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 1 month, 1 week AGO
I heartily echo the sentiments expressed in the April 3 opinion regarding the current NIC trustees. I have been remiss in not saying anything earlier. I was vocal in my disappointment of three of the previous trustees and rooted for their replacement in the last election. Perhaps they were good people, but they were terrible trustees. That’s all over now, thank goodness.
Before the election, I was impressed by the three candidates who eventually won because of their boldness to enter a situation that was… let’s say “difficult.” It’s easy to join something that is doing well, but NIC was on the verge of losing its accreditation and these individuals stepped forward to meet the challenge head on, not for themselves, but for the school and community. Since then, NIC’s solid reputation has been restored and the school is no longer under scrutiny!
Loss of accreditation would have hurt this community in ways that I don’t think any of us could fully fathom. The lives and futures of students, families, staff and local businesses were in jeopardy. The new board of trustees, as well as Dr. Swayne and no doubt countless others who I can’t name have returned NIC to the pinnacle of education this community deserves. To all those involved with this remarkable turnaround, I say, “thank you, thank you, thank you”!
