PREP ROUNDUP: Sandpoint baseball takes two from Lake City; Priest River improves to 7-0 on season
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 4 hours, 28 minutes AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | April 9, 2026 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Pepper Rickert won her fifth consecutive match by a perfect 6-0, 6-0 score, Lily Evans teamed up with Amelia Polson at No. 1 girls doubles to remain undefeated on the season, and the Bulldogs downed the Bears in a 5A Inland Empire League matchup held Tuesday afternoon at the James E. Russell Center.
"She played with precision, power and finesse against Cate Gloeckner, a strong opponent," Sandpoint High head coach Kent Anderson noted of Rickert. "Lily and Amelia cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Lily used her characteristic solid net game to team up with Amelia’s great all-court presence to pick apart their opponents."
Nathan Duke and Austin Leonard picked up two-set wins in boys singles, duos Brayden Western and Caden Martz and McCoy Jensen and Joey Allen swept in boys doubles, and Zayda Ambauen and Porter Jensen and Tanner Western and Morgan Harris swept in mixed doubles.
"Tanner and Morgan played with strong chemistry as they battled to a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6 victory," coach Anderson said. "Morgan’s slashing backhand serve returns kept the team alive in countless stress situations. We don’t call her the "Ice-Queen” for nothing."
Avery Thornton wrapped up the day's wins with a two-and-a-half hour marathon victory that finally ended with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 16-14.
