Spool Effect will bring its genre-blending sound to Kootenai River Brewing Company on Friday, April 18.

The show will run from 5 to 8 p.m. at KRBC, located at 6424 Riverside St.

Spool Effect features Kevin Dye on vocals and guitar, Luke Zohn on bass and Tyler Pearson on drums and percussion. Formed in North Idaho, the trio came together through a shared love of diverse musical styles and the openness of improvisational music.

Before joining forces, all three musicians built extensive backgrounds in music scenes across the country, performing as session players, touring acts, worship musicians and signed artists. That experience helped shape the band’s collaborative approach, which began in a studio tucked in the woods, where they started writing music reflecting both their past influences and the independent spirit of North Idaho.

Their sound blends reggae, rock, funk, jazz and blues with experimental elements, creating a dynamic style that emphasizes rhythm and movement.

“The music is deeply rooted in the mindset that being able to dance, to move, even if it’s just nodding your head to the beat is paramount,” the band said in a statement. “No matter how old or young, or what musical style you prefer, there is something in the music to grab your attention.”

Dye said the group is looking forward to the upcoming performance.

“It’ll be our first show back in our hometown in probably 10 months,” he added. “We’re super looking forward to it.”
