A police chase in south Lincoln County Wednesday afternoon on the Kootenai River bridge ended without serious injuries.
According to a press release from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, at about 1:01 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, the sheriff’s office received a 911 call from a person reporting that a female was making threats to harm herself.
The caller was trying to follow the female but was unable to keep up and lost sight of her. She was last seen driving north on Montana Highway 37. Deputies began to search the area attempting to locate the female to check on her welfare.
At approximately 1:46 p.m., the caller reported she had received a text message with more statements about harming herself. She also made a post on Facebook which indicated she was going to harm herself.
At approximately 1:59 p.m., a U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer located the vehicle on Jennings Haul Road. The officer attempted to stop the female to check on her welfare. She failed to yield and turned south on Highway 37 headed toward Libby at speeds reaching 100 miles per hour, becoming a risk to public safety.
Officers successfully deployed stop sticks north of Libby, which deflated a tire forcing her vehicle to slow down. The female lost control of her vehicle and came to a stop on the bridge over the Kootenai River.
The female was taken to Cabinet Peaks Medical Center to be examined and then was taken into custody without incident.
"The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Libby Police Department, U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks game wardens and Montana Highway Patrol for their assistance," Sheriff Darren Short said in the statement.
Once the pursuit ended on the bridge, traffic was halted until the scene was cleared. Officials did not say whether the woman was armed or if charges are pending.
