PREP BASEBALL: Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls split
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 1 day, 2 hours AGO
COEUR d’ALENE — Pitching can take you a long way.
If you don’t have that depth, it can get tough in a hurry.
Coeur d’Alene senior Bam Fenter allowed two hits, striking out 12 in a 7-0 win over the Post Falls Trojans in the first game of a 6A Inland Empire League game at Ted Page Field on Thursday. In the nightcap, Gavin Wienker hit a go-ahead three-run double in the fifth inning as the Trojans beat the Vikings 7-5 to get the split.
“It really comes down to pitching league wide,” Post Falls coach Kurt Reese said. “We got dominated pretty good in the first game and Bam didn’t allow a lot of chances. When we’re able to get to the bullpen, that’s where we want to be.”
Fenter, who drove in 10 runs in Tuesday’s first game between the schools, hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth in the first game.
“He just did a good job of locating his pitches and we were behind everything,” Reese said. “We’ve got to put up a better fight than that.”
Senior Ayden Carrasco had two RBIs in the second game for Post Falls (3-8, 1-2 6A IEL), which hosts Lake City in a doubleheader on Saturday.
“I really like how we battled in the second game,” Reese said. “That’s what we’re going to need to do to put some wins together.”
Coeur d’Alene (4-3, 2-1) travels to Lewiston on Tuesday.

Senior Jake Larcher went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored and sophomore Landon Puzio struck out six in the second game for Lakeland.
“We came out and competed really well in the second game,” Lakeland coach Al Bevacqua said. “The first home game, it’s always a little nerve wracking. Landon was lights out on the mound and Nate’s home run was pretty awesome to see.”
Junior Parker Byrd had two of Lakeland’s three hits in the opener.
“(Lewiston pitcher) Karston Eilers really kept us off balance, but Parker was really on him,” Al Bevacqua said. “Lewiston’s a good hitting ball team and efficient in everything that they do. You’ve got to play really well to beat them.”
