Bigfork boys 3rd in Hamilton meet

HAMILTON — With Robert Merchant, Quinn Kerr and Tayden West finishing 1-2-3 in the 100 meters, the Bigfork boys ended up third at a tight, weather-shortened Hamilton Invitational track and field meet Saturday.
Bigfork scored 54 points; Hamilton won with 57 and Corvallis was second at 56. Fourteen of the events were completed, out of usual 17.
Merchant’s time was 11.26 seconds. Tamret Savik won the triple jump (45 feet, 6 inches) and was second in the high jump for the Vikings.
One of the top performers was Frenchtown’s Henry Griffin, who marked 56-3 in the shot put and uncorked a 175-6 discus throw.
Columbia Falls had 34 points; Joe West won the javelin, throwing 161-5. Easton Brooks finished second in the long jump by one inch (20-5).
On the girls side, Miles City won with 73.33 points through 15 events; Boulder was next at 64 and Frenchtown was third at 48.33
Whitefish was the top area team, scoring 39 points for sixth. Ginger Bergland won the 300 hurdles in 46.96.
Polson’s Olivia Cottet hit a personal record of 119-1 while winning the discus.
