Nancy Carol Barron, 86, passed away peacefully in the early hours of April 9, 2026. She was born in Kalispell on Sept. 2, 1939, to Howard J. and Mabel L. (Iverson) Poston. She joined brother Mike at the family home.

As a child, Nancy enjoyed exploring Kalispell and the surrounding area, playing games in the yard and surfing for fruit in all the neighborhood trees. She spent time driving heavy equipment with her dad and learning some of the finer things in life from her mom. Nancy attended Hedges Elementary School, conveniently located across the street from her home. She graduated from Flathead High School in 1957 and promptly headed to Spokane, Washington, to attend Kinman Business School. She had a wicked shorthand. Upon graduation from Kinman, Nancy went to work for the Spokane Sheriff’s Department as a deputy. While working at the Sheriff’s Office, she met Richard "Dick" Barron and after a brief courtship, they eloped in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on April 11, 1964. Shortly after their marriage they moved back to Kalispell.

Nancy and Dick welcomed five children to the family — Paula, Bruce, Mark and Theresa (twins), and Andrea. Nancy was a great mom who seamlessly balanced working for the Flathead Sheriff’s Office, the State of Montana and eventually Glacier Quilts. She had a passion and wonderful talent for quilting, through which she made many friends. She bestowed many a quilt on those she held near and dear.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Mabel Poston, husband Dick in 2016 and daughter, Theresa Kinniburgh in 2010.

She is survived by daughter, Paula DeWit (Allen) along with her daughters, Kelsey DeWit (Yo), Kayla DeWit with great-granddaughters, Kennedy and Lennon McCarthy; son, Bruce Barron (Cindy), granddaughter, Rachael and grandson, Randall; son, Mark Barron (Cammi), grandsons, Ryan and Luke (Madisyn) and granddaughter, Janae; daughter, Andrea Barron (Wai Choi) and grandson, Keanu Ng. She is also survived by her daughter Theresa’s children, Patrick, Paul and Peter Kinniburgh.

In accordance with Nancy’s wishes, a private family service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, at Lone Pine Cemetery in Bigfork with Chaplain Rob Peterson officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the charity of your choice.

Nancy’s family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff of BeeHive Homes (Grizzly Home) as well as Enhabit Hospice for the loving care they provided to Nancy. She truly enjoyed her time there.
