GTE PROMOTES LIND

Jon Lind, field engineer with General Telephone Co. of the Northwest, has been promoted to service foreman-construction. Lind, who attended the U of I, is a member of the Bonner County Youth Athletic Assn. and the Sandpoint Elks Club. He serves as a baseball coach, football commissioner and first aid instructor. Lind and his wife, Sherry, reside at 1011 Ruth in Sandpoint with their sons, Sean and Mike.

ANGLERS’ BREAKFAST SATURDAY

A first-class fishermen’s breakfast will be served up Saturday beginning at the bright and early hour of 4:30 a.m. at the Sandpoint Community Hall. The breakfast, put on by the Bonner County Sportsmen’s Association, will feature a menu of moose sausage, hotcakes, and coffee, all for only $1.75 and $1 for children under 12. All anglers heading out early for the trout season opener on Lake Pend Oreille and other lowland lakes, as well as any other area residents who want to take part in a fine breakfast, are invited. Breakfast will be served until 9 a.m.

April 14, 1951 – NEWS FROM HOPE

Mrs. Margaret Monahan, Hope school principal, announced students with perfect spelling grades for the quarter: John Miller and Betty McElhaney, 8th grade; Charles Heath, 7th grade; Phyllis Zaklan, 4th; Laverna Rounsville, 3rd; and Lois McChesnie, 2nd grade. She also reported awards to Arthur Croy and Leonard Butler for best exhibit in a project on trees.

FAST LICENSE FOR CABINET GORGE

The quickest license ever issued by the federal government for a private power project was granted Jan. 9 for WWP’s $40 million hydro-electric plant at Cabinet Gorge, said WWP president K.M. Robinson. “This is the tightest construction program I’ve had anything to do with,” he said. “It will take $10 million worth of equipment to put the plan on line in 1952. The first generator will go on line in Sept., 1952, the second in October and a third in November. The fourth generator will be installed in January, 1953.”

KING AND QUEEN OF FROSH BALL

Presiding over the annual Frosh ball in the U of I student union were two of Sandpoint’s young people, Miss Charlotte Pennington as queen, and Walt Hardin as king. They were chosen rulers of the formal affair closing Frosh Week. Miss Pennington, a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pennington. Hardin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walt Hardin, represented Sigma Nu house.
