Charles Peter Berta, 89, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2026, in Sandpoint, Idaho. Services will be held via a Zoom meeting on Saturday, April 25, at 10 a.m. Pacific time with Pastor Eric Rust of Cedar Hills Church officiating. Charles was born May 18, 1936, in Hungary. He immigrated to the United States during the Hungarian revolution in the 1950s. He settled in New Jersey and became a bricklayer. 

Charles married Marion Wilson in Sayreville, N.J., in 1968. They bought a home in Parlin, N.J. He later worked for Pathmark Warehouse until his retirement in 2000. Marion passed away in 2003, and Charles remained in Parlin until 2021, when he moved to Sandpoint. 

He enjoyed going to the harness races and cooking. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Deborah Dickerson of Sandpoint; niece Karen Leary; and nephew John Dickinson, both from Madison, N.J. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Berta Péter and Kiss Irma; wife Marion Berta; and his eight siblings.
