Survey for Whitefish Community Wildfire Protection Plan
Whitefish Pilot | UPDATED 3 weeks, 6 days AGO
A survey for the 2026 Whitefish Community Wildfire Protection Plan is now open, and people are encouraged to participate.
The plan will help identify actions to reduce wildfire risk to people, homes, natural resources, and infrastructure across the city, and will address evacuation routes and emergency notifications. The plan is being updated to comply with the Montana Land Use Planning Act.
City Council in January approved an $88,000 contract with SWCA Environmental Consultants to develop the plan, with an August 2026 deadline.
A Whitefish Area Wildfire Protection Plan was developed in 2009, and an an updated risk assessment requires an updated plan.
In addition to local resident and stakeholder input, appropriate county, state, and federal officials and staff are involved, and the document will build upon the 2021 Flathead County Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
The public survey takes a few minutes to complete and is anonymous. Visit forms.office.com/r/w4AyYtCjC5.
