Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 1 hour, 35 minutes AGO
Verna passed away March 26, 2026, in Spokane Valley, Wash., in the presence of family. She was born in Hanford, Calif., on May 1, 1932, to Hazel and Harvey Losey. She married the love of her life, Waide Hamner, on Oct. 9, 1950, in Modesto, Calif. She was baptized Jan. 17, 1960, at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Oxnard, Calif.
Verna was a devoted Christian woman and loved her Lord. She and Waide lived in Oxnard and Ventura, Calif., for 37 years before moving to Post Falls, Idaho, in 1988. They celebrated their 50th anniversary Oct. 9, 2000, and led an example for family and friends of what a successful marriage should look like.
She loved camping with friends and family, which led her to join the Elks Kamper Klub and the Lake City Sams Camper Club. She and Waide traveled to all 50 states, 49 of which they drove through in their RV. Verna loved volunteering in the community with nonprofits such as local food banks. She was an active member of the Coeur d'Alene Red Hatters. Verna enjoyed playing card games with family and friends and possessed a competitive nature; she didn't like to lose. She enjoyed working in her backyard, maintaining her lawn, plants, flowers and trees, and cooking and keeping her home immaculate. Verna loved being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Brent Vantassell of Salt Lake City, Utah; son Bruce Hamner and partner Linda Irish of Spokane Valley, Wash.; son and daughter-in-law Rex and Gayle Hamner of Pinedale, Wyo.; grandchildren Alan Hamner, Jessica Brooks, Adam VanTassell, Natalie Gardner, Daniel VanTassell, Christopher Hamner, Rebecca Tracy, Tanya Hamner, Rachel Miller and 17 great grandchildren.
Verna is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband Waide Hamner, daughter-in-law Sandra Hamner and grandson Ricky Hamner.
Per her wishes, there will be no memorial service for Verna.
