Jarett Weeks shot his best round ever to win the boys individual title and Tia Bellinger birdied No. 3 in her first high school golf tournament ever to highlight Plains High School efforts in the Plains Invitational at Wild Horse Plains golf course Friday.

Coach Lisa Brown reports that the Plains tournament that both of her teams finished third in final team scoring.

Weeks won the Plains Invite title with his efficient 76 to lead all golfers back to the clubhouse. Eli Nicholas of Seeley Swan was second among the boys with a 78 and Phin Cataldo of Superior took third with a 79.

Oakley Berg of Florence won the girls title with a 91 and Solveig Nygaard of Thompson Falls was second with a 95.

Weeks, JD Warta, Bryson Hoyle and Welsey Loveall wielded clubs for the Horsemen and Mila Rivinius, Brooklyn Crain, Cheyenne LittleWhirlwind, Eleanor Bebb, Jaycee Carr and Bellinger for the Trotters rounded the nine-hole Wild Horse Plains course twice for Plains.

Coach Brown liked what her golfers accomplished in their annual home meet. “Jarett shot a personal best and Bryson, one of our first year golfers, improved by 17 strokes over last week, which is awesome,” she said. “Mila had a solid day; great improvement for a first year golfer, and Cheyenne actually shot one stroke better than Mila.”

The other Plains golfers were seeing some of the first actual high school competition of their careers and handled it well, Brown added, saying that Bellinger’s big moment was particularly poignant for her as Tia is her granddaughter.

“Tia got a birdie on hole three in her very first tournament,” Brown said, “so she was very excited. And I guess I was too.”

Plains golfers plan on attending the Tobacco Valley tournament in Eureka Wednesday and Thursday, weather permitting. “We are headed to Eureka this week,” she said. “We are lucky enough to be able to sleep in their gym, so we can afford to go and play both days.”
