Whitefish girls show sprint depth in season opener

The Whitefish girls track and field team began the season with gusto last Tuesday, taking first in the 400-meter relay at the Kalispell Mini Invite.
Freshman Avery Orme proved she will be a contender this season, claiming first in the 100 in 12 .84 seconds. Orme also took fourth in triple jump. Senior Sol Holmquist proves to be a powerful returner, taking first in javelin with 109 feet, 10 inches.
Sophomore Ginger Bergland took second in the 200 in 27.32 as well as second in 100 hurdles in 15.87. Chantry Krack was fifth in 100 hurdles. Krack and Bergland tied for third in high jump.
The boys’ 4x100 relay team took third. Sophomore Braylon Dunn placed second in the discus with 132 feet, 1 inch, as well as sixth in the javelin. Junior Colby Minton placed third in the 400 with 52.11.
On Saturday, the teams traveled to Hamilton for a Class A invite. The girls took sixth out of 16 teams, amassing 39 points. The girls sprint depth showed as the quad of Mila Maddock, Neva Sliman, Anna Boysen and Bergland took first in the 4x100 relay.
Bergland claimed the individual title in the 300 hurdles in 46.96.
Whitefish girls had a good times in the 200, with Boysen finishing third, Orme fifth and Hayley Reardon sixth.
Freshman Kendall Dye took fourth in the 800 in 2:30.45. Krack was third in triple jump. Dunn was the sole point-scorer of the meet, placing sixth in the discus.
The next competition for the Bulldogs is Friday in Missoula.
