The junior from Coeur d'Alene High earned his first collegiate victory Tuesday at the Tournament of Knights at Glendoveer Golf Course in Portland, Ore. West shot a 6-under 213 (70-73-70) to win by one stroke, leading the Warriors to a second-place finish, two shots behind the University of British Columbia. “Really proud of Luke finally breaking through to get that first collegiate victory," LC State coach Zach Anderson said. "Been close so many times and it was great to witness him brush the nerves aside down the stretch to get it done.”

Oregon Tech softball

The junior from Coeur d'Alene High and North Idaho College tossed a two-hit shutout in Game 1, and No. 1-ranked Oregon Tech swept Southern Oregon on Friday on senior day in Klamath Falls, 3-0 and 9-1 at Stilwell Stadium. OIT (36-4, 18-2 CCC) moved two games clear of Eastern Oregon atop the league standings and eliminated SOU from the championship race, holding the defending national champs to four hits on the afternoon. After the opener was delayed by over an hour due to lightning Schmidt retired  the final 12 batters in order to close out her fourth shutout of 2026. Schmidt, who struck out a season-high 11 batters in the win, was named pitcher of the week for the third time this season. Schmidt beat Southern Oregon again on Tuesday and is now 16-1 on the season.

Capri Sims

Central Washington women's basketball

Sims, a 6-foot forward from Post Falls High, was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team. Sims has a 3.57 GPA in Business Administration. The Second Team All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference honoree took a major step forward in her junior campaign, improving in almost every statistical category. She finished second on the team with 14 points per game while adding 9.6 rebounds per game, 2.6 assists per game, 21 blocks, and 22 steals. She finished the season shooting 56.3 percent from the floor, eight percent from three, and 63.8 percent at the free-throw line. She hit the 1,000-point mark in her career in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against Montana State-Billings.


Avery Waddington

Waddington, a 6-foot-3 guard from Lake City High, was named to the Academic All-District team by College Sports Communicators. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 and must have played in at least 90 percent of their team's games over the previous season. Waddington, a communications major, has a 3.68 GPA.
Waddington was voted second-team All-Big Sky after averaging 13.0 points on team-best 45.8 percent shooting and 6.5 rebounds.
Waddington had four double-doubles last season, five games of 20 or more points, with a season-high 31 coming in a home win over Portland State.


Hazel Kunkel

Northwest Nazarene track and field

Kunkel, a freshman from Lake City High, finished second in the women's 1,500-meter run at the Northwest Nazarene Invitational in a personal best time of 4 minutes, 34.48 seconds last Saturday at Bohner Track in Nampa.
