PREP ROUNDUP: Sandpoint baseball sweeps Bonners Ferry; softball grabs league win over Moscow
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 3 hours, 34 minutes AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | April 16, 2026 1:00 AM

Sandpoint 8, Bonners Ferry 2
SANDPOINT — Mason Little capitalized on his first start of the season on the rubber.
The standout senior struck out six batters across six quality innings, allowing just five hits, three walks, and an earned run, and then got it done at the plate with a pair of RBI singles as the Bulldogs gave head coach Jesse Dunham his first win against his alma mater during the opener of a non-league doubleheader against the Badgers on Tuesday afternoon at War Memorial Field.
Little and junior Brennan Shaw had back-to-back RBI singles that gave Sandpoint a 4-2 lead in the fourth. In the second, senior Parker Reichart hit an RBI triple — the first of his career — and senior Dallen Williams collected an RBI single in the at-bat following to put the Bulldogs ahead 2-1. Defensively, Reichart, playing shortstop, caught a line drive and threw to junior Landon Day at second for a double play, which proved crucial after the Badgers put two on with no outs to start the sixth frame.
Junior Jake Solt had an RBI single and junior Kordale Burt struck out three batters over 4.1 innings of work for Bonners Ferry.
Senior Sage Medeiros contributed an RBI single, junior Jack Schriber drew a pair of walks, and senior Soren Caprio rounded the contest's hits with a single of his own for Sandpoint, which scored four of their eight runs in the fifth and also got a clean inning and a strikeout from Day on the mound.

SANDPOINT — It was much of the same for Sandpoint in the second game.
Sophomore Blake Bogadi struck out five batters across the first three innings of his varsity career on the mound and belted a two-run triple to center field — another career first — as the Bulldogs used a nine-run first inning and a seven-run fourth inning to run-rule the Badgers in the nightcap of Tuesday's non-league doubleheader at War Memorial Field.
Senior Mason Little recorded an RBI single and his first triple of the season and senior Dallen Williams had an RBI double and an RBI single of his own for Sandpoint, which also crossed the plate four times in the fourth. Senior Parker Reichart, who had four runs scored, junior Jack Schriber, and senior Hayden Miller also hit RBI singles, as did sophomore Daniel Holman, which was the first of his varsity career.
Kordale Burt went 2-for-3 with a double for Bonners Ferry, which dropped to 4-10 on the year.
Junior Austyn Young had his first career varsity hit, senior Soren Caprio drew three walks, and junior Landon Day picked up the first win of his career on the mound after two scoreless innings for Sandpoint (10-2), which hosts Moscow for a 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader on Saturday night.

SANDPOINT — Sophomores Raelyn Olsen and Marlee Stevens led the charge at the top of the lineup.
Olsen went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and her first RBI single of the year, Stevens was 2-for-4 with three runs scored, an RBI single, and her first career home run — an inside-the-parker during Sandpoint's six-run seventh inning — and the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Bears in a 5A Inland Empire League game held Tuesday at Moscow High.
Stevens also went the distance in the circle, striking out seven batters and allowing just two earned runs over seven frames. Macalester College commit Cadence Skibitsky registered two hits, both of which were RBI singles, and Olympic College commit Arah Stevens had a two-run double to kick off the scoring in the first inning for Sandpoint, which also scored four runs in the fourth on their way to victory.
"Marlee pitched well and the girls worked as a team," Sandpoint High head coach Leah Platt said. "We had clutch hits when runners were on base, and the defense was solid and backed each other up. Bailey Wilson had a great pick at first and Bailey Pierson caught several (flyouts) in right field."
Wilson, a sophomore, drew two walks and Pierson, also a sophomore, chipped in two hits of her own, including an RBI single for Sandpoint (4-10), which also got a multi-hit effort and a two-run single from Taylor Bannick, who is riding a six-game hitting streak. The Lady Bulldogs will host Moscow (2-11) for a league doubleheader this Saturday.

POST FALLS — Priest River's Ian Lamanna had never competed in the long jump at the high school level until Tuesday, but that didn't much matter.
The standout senior beat out 23 competitors to win the event with a mark of 20 feet, 10 inches, which ranks as No. 3 all-time in school history, and beat out nine other competitors to win the pole vault (13 feet) as he led all area athletes at the Christina Finney Co-Ed Relays held at Post Falls High.
Senior Niki Porinchok beat out 26 competitors to win the discus (151 feet, 2 inches) and placed second out of 30 throwers in the shot put (45 feet, 11.5 inches) for the Spartans, which placed ninth out of 10 scoring teams.
Sandpoint High junior Knox Williams competed in the 400-meter dash for the first time this season and beat out 19 other runners to win the event in 53.05 seconds. Junior Trey Blumenberg and seniors Kamren Ziarnick, Maverick Gomez and Isaac Schmit added a win by almost two full seconds in the 4x100 relay (1:30.91) for Sandpoint's boys, which placed fourth with 93 points. Junior triple jumper Shooter Jones (40 feet, 8.5 inches) and junior discus thrower Damian Porter (142 feet, 2 inches) added second-place finishes to the Bulldogs' tally.
On the girls' side, junior Elizabeth Storms ran to a new personal best of 2 minutes, 24.39 seconds in the 800-meter run and finished in 5 minutes, 29.62 seconds in the 1600-meter run as she beat out a total of 36 other competitors on her way to wins in both events.
