John Fenton Wollaston, 82
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 1 hour, 34 minutes AGO
John Fenton Wollaston of Smelterville, Idaho, passed away at his home Oct. 6, 2025. He was born Oct. 13, 1942, in Wallace, Idaho, to Bud and Marcella Wollaston.
John was the youngest of three children, joining his brother, Robert Wollaston of Texas, and his sister, Loretta Cannon of Spokane. He grew up in Kellogg, Idaho, where he graduated from high school and was active in many sports.
After graduation, John married Linda Bratton, and together they had three children: Kelly (61), Tonya (59) and John (58). He was also a proud grandfather to 10 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 16 great-grandchildren.
John lived in Seattle for a time, where he worked for Boeing. After 32 years of dedicated service, he retired. He later owned and operated a laundromat and card shop. Eventually, John returned to the Silver Valley, purchasing a home in Smelterville.
He was well known around town and could often be found at local thrift stores, where he had a knack for finding a great deal. He also enjoyed playing cards every week. One of his greatest joys was attending sporting events — especially cheering on the Kellogg Wildcats. You could always count on seeing him in the bleachers, enthusiastically supporting his team.
Above all, John loved his family and friends. He cherished the Silver Valley and often said there was no other place he would have wanted to grow up.
John will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Kellogg on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 2 p.m.
