Softball: Lady Trojans drop 2 to Falcons

FLORENCE — Claire Folkerts hit two home runs in the first game and Allie Borgmann rapped out three hits in the nightcap, but the Troy Lady Trojans lost both ends of a softball doubleheader to unbeaten Florence Friday.
Late rallies carried the Falcons (5-0), who were State B runners-up a year ago. They scored four times in the fourth inning to take an 11-4 lead in the first game; then they got a three-run home run from Maggie Schneiter in the seventh inning of a 10-8 win.
Troy (6-3) swung the bats. Folkerts hit two-run homers in the second inning and fourth innings of the opener, along with an RBI double in the sixth. Teammate Ellah Wallace added a solo shot in the fifth.
Trouble was Jaden Fisher homered twice, doubled and drove in five runs for the Falcons, who had nine extra base hits and 14 overall. Taylor Pyette hit a double and triple and scored three times. In the circle Fisher limited Troy to seven hits, a walk and four earned runs. She fanned seven.
In the second game, with Troy hitting as the home team, the Lady Trojans scored five times in the bottom of the sixth to take an 8-7 lead. An RBI base hit from Borgmann and a two-run single from Ainsley Huitron started the rally before Florence misplayed a pair of fly balls, playing a pair.
Florence got one-out singles from Hayley Arlington and Jemma Bouma ahead of Schneiter’s homer in the seventh; in the bottom of the inning Troy got a two-out double from Borgmann but didn’t score.
Huitron and Hailey Dungan had two hits in the nightcap. Borgmann went 5-for-7 at the plate on the day.
