Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 4 hours, 49 minutes AGO
Helen Jane Graybill of Coeur d'Alene passed away peacefully April 2, 2026, at the Hospice of North Idaho, surrounded by her three children. Jane was born March 27, 1945, in Vanport, Ore., and is the daughter of Helen and Dennis Chapman. She grew up in the Silver Valley, graduating from Wallace High School in 1964. Jane later moved to the Seattle area, where she worked in the business office for the Burlington Northern Railroad. After time had passed, she then moved to the Los Angeles area, where she was employed by Flying Tigers, an airline, for several years. Yet Idaho repeatedly called out to her to return, so Jane and her three children moved back to the area where she worked for the State of Idaho until retirement.
Jane would often channel her inner Martha Stewart by preparing gourmet meals for family and friends served on beautiful table settings, which brought her immense joy. She was also an accomplished seamstress, gardener, and decorator. Jane had many hobbies during her life, but she certainly treasured the many social and charitable activities she organized and participated in while a member of the Coeur d'Alene Elks Lodge No. 1254. She was even chosen as the Exalted Ruler of Fraternal Order for the organization, a proud accomplishment of her life.
One of Jane's great loves was traveling to different parts of the world and experiencing various cultures. However, the country that was dearest to her heart was Ireland. After many visits there, she referred to it as her second home.
Jane is survived by her three children: her daughter, Heather Walde (Don), of Post Falls, and her sons, Marc Cameron (Lisa) and Mike Cameron of El Segundo, Calif. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tanner Walde and John Cameron, and her siblings, Kay Hall, Mary Garrison and Dennis Chapman (Jenny). Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Phil Graybill, and her parents.
As we say goodbye, her family takes comfort in the beautiful memories Jane created, which will be cherished forever.
A celebration of life will be held in August.
