PREP BASEBALL & SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Sandpoint squads post convincing sweeps of Moscow
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 hour, 32 minutes AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | April 19, 2026 5:30 PM

SANDPOINT — When celebrating a senior day, sometimes early-game jitters get the better of teams.
That wasn't a problem for Sandpoint during the opener of Saturday's 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader at War Memorial Field.
Senior Soren Caprio went 2-for-2 with an RBI single in the first frame and a triple to lead off the second — the first of his career — senior Sage Medeiros recorded an RBI triple of his own and made his way closer to 100 career strikeouts, fanning nine batters over five scoreless innings on the mound, and the Bulldogs jumped on the Bears early en route to a five-inning shutout win.
Senior Coleman Inge was 2-for-2 with an RBI single in the second inning for Sandpoint, which also saw the standout catcher pickoff a runner at first base after a Medeiros strikeout to end the second frame.
Senior Parker Reichart registered an RBI double and senior Mason Little, who had a game-high three RBIs, chipped in an RBI single for Sandpoint, which took care of a business with a nine-run first inning that saw the Bulldogs reach base after 11 consecutive plate appearances at one point.
Max Hain struck out two batters across 3.2 three-hit innings for Moscow, which was outhit 7-3 in the contest.
Sandpoint's Medeiros, sitting at 83 career strikeouts, threw 48 of his 66 pitches for strikes as he induced seven swinging strikeouts and lowered his season ERA to 0.46.

SANDPOINT — This one went the distance, but it was another big first inning that powered Sandpoint to a sweep.
In a game that had no extra-base hits, senior Parker Reichart was 2-for-3 with a run scored, junior Jack Schriber hit the go-ahead two-run single to center field during Sandpoint's four-run first frame, and the Bulldogs defeated the Bears by two runs in Saturday's 5A Inland Empire League nightcap at War Memorial Field.
Senior Dallen Williams kicked off the scoring for the Bulldogs with an RBI single. On the rubber, the Clark College commit turned in another gem, striking out 10 batters and allowing just two hits over seven quality innings of work. The right-hander is also nearing 100 career strikeouts, now sitting at 91 after his performance Saturday.
Sophomore Daniel Holman contributed an RBI single and senior Coleman Inge's sacrifice fly in sixth gave the Bulldogs an insurance run that could have very well came in handy if Sandpoint hadn't gotten out of a no-out bases loaded jam in the first. The Bulldogs turned a 5-4-3 double play — from Reichart to senior Mason Little to junior Carson Resso — to limit the damage.
Max Hain had an RBI single and Sam Rigney struck out one batter over five innings on the bump for Moscow, which dropped to 3-9 on the season.
Little, senior Soren Caprio, and senior Sage Medeiros all singled as well in the victory for Sandpoint, which will travel to Bonners Ferry on Tuesday for their final non-league doubleheader of the year.

Lady Bulldogs shut down Lady Bears in IEL showdown
Sandpoint 11, Moscow 1 (5)
SANDPOINT — Marlee Stevens hasn't just been a welcomed addition to the squad — she's making her mark on the North Idaho prep pitching scene.
The standout sophomore lowered her season ERA to 4.65 as she struck out a career-high 12 batters and allowed no earned runs during the opener of the Lady Bulldogs' 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader, in which they run-ruled the Lady Bears, on Saturday morning at War Memorial Field.
Stevens also led the batting effort with a 3-for-3 performance that included both an RBI double and an RBI single. Senior Arah Stevens and junior Teagan Newsom each had an RBI triple and an RBI single and sophomore Bailey Pierson knocked an RBI triple of her own for Sandpoint, which scored eight of their 11 runs during the second inning — an inning in which they strung together five consecutive hits at one point.
Madilyn Hennrich had two hits, including a double, for Moscow, which scored on a fielding error in the third.
Senior Cadence Skibitsky had an RBI single and two hits in total, including a double, sophomore Bailey Wilson had a pair of singles, and sophomores Taylor Bannick and Raelyn Olsen both singled for Sandpoint during the victory.

SANDPOINT — And in game two, Sandpoint certainly left no doubt as they put the league on notice.
Senior Cadence Skibitsky went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a pair of triples and five RBIs in total as she propelled the Lady Bulldogs to a sizeable win in the nightcap of Saturday's 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader at War Memorial Field.
Sophomore Bailey Wilson was credited with her second win of the year on the rubber, allowing just one earned run as she struck out two batters over five solid innings of work. Junior Teagan Newsom was 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, and three runs scored for Sandpoint, which scored in all four of the innings they batted, including an 8-spot in the fourth that put the game out of reach.
"Everyone contributed today," Sandpoint High head coach Leah Platt said following the sweep. "Our pitchers kept hitters off balance, and the offense was on fire."
Platt also noted that the team's aggressive baserunning and support from the bench was crucial as her Lady Bulldogs swept Moscow for the first time since 2019.
"Ariana Turnbull and Jazzy Thompson kept the dugout positive, Alexis and Chryslynn Byers kept everyone warm and going, Tayslie Otto rocked on the microphone, keeping the parents and fans involved," coach Platt continued. "The girls are really there for each other. I am so proud of how they are playing for each other — one team, one fight."
Sophomore Raelyn Olsen was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, sophomore Avery Inge contributed an RBI double, as did sophomore Marlee Stevens, and sophomore Bailey Pierson had an RBI single in the 14-run victory.
Ella McCallie had an RBI single for Moscow, which was outhit 14-5 in the contest and fell to 2-15 on the year.
Senior Arah Stevens doubled and sophomore Taylor Bannick extended her hitting streak to eight games with a base hit for Sandpoint (6-10), which will take a three-game winning streak into their non-league doubleheader at home against Bonners Ferry on Monday, in which they will celebrate senior night.
