Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 4 hours, 57 minutes AGO
Mrs. Sally Craner Hoppe (née Vogel), aged 91, passed away peacefully April 8, 2026, in Post Falls, Idaho. Born on March 24, 1935, in Saint Maries, Idaho, Sally lived a life defined by resilience, faith and devotion to her family.
Sally was raised in the Catholic faith by her grandmother in Saint Maries. Her early years were shaped by these teachings, which instilled in her a deep belief in God and the importance of doing what was right. Following her marriage, Sally embraced a broader spiritual path that emphasized living with integrity and raising her children to follow their hearts and beliefs.
Sally spent much of her life in Saint Maries, where she undertook the remarkable task of raising eight children. Despite the challenges of raising a large family in a small town, she approached motherhood with strength and dedication. Her efforts left an indelible mark on her children and those who knew her. Over the years, Sally formed many cherished friendships; though many of these friends have preceded her in passing, their memories remain a testament to the bonds she created.
Sally is survived by her loving husband, Raymond Hoppe; her children: Merle W. Craner (June), Frederick M., Kathy L. (Wes), David L. (Kara), Sheryl A. (Roger), Dana K. (Glen) and Kimberly M. (Evan); as well as 18 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren who will carry forward her legacy of love and perseverance.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Fred Wilbur Craner, who passed June 18, 1984; her daughter, Terry Lee, on Dec. 28, 1953; and her son, Lyle Jason, on Dec. 1, 2022.
Sally's life was one of quiet strength and unwavering commitment to those she loved. Her memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
May those who mourn Sally find comfort in remembering the warmth she brought into their lives and the values she instilled in those around her. A Funeral Service will be held May 2, 2026, from 2 to 3 p.m., at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1011 N. Compton Street. Reception following.
