Baseball: Lytle HR lifts Lions over Cats; Polson, Bigfork win

COLUMBIA FALLS — Rogan Lytle’s two-out, two-run home run in the eighth inning broke a 7-7 tie, and Eureka beat Columbia Falls 9-7 Tuesday in high school baseball.

Lytle’s shot came after the Wildcats, down 4-0 in the first inning, scored once in the bottom of the seventh — Tristan Victor hit a run-scoring single, his fourth RBI of the game — to forge a 7-7 tie and force extras. 

Victor was 3-for-4 with an RBI triple in the fourth inning; his two-run single put the Cats (5-2) up 6-5 in the fifth. 

Tyce Van Orden’s RBI single and Brody Chapman’s run-scoring grounder put the Lions (5-3) back in front 7-6 in the top of the sixth. Leif Burow scored three times for Eureka; Rowan Burow and Van Orden each had two RBIs. 

Chapman also threw 3 2-3 innings of solid relief, allowing two hits, three walks and one unearned run. He struck out one. 


Polson 9, Libby 2

LIBBY — Liam Jackson doubled, tripled and took a one-hit shutout into the seventh inning to lead Polson over its Northwest A rival. 

Jackson hit an RBI double in the first inning to put his team up 1-0, and his two-run triple made it 8-0 in the fifth.  

In between, Brayson Dumont hit an RBI double and Noah Agliano drove in a fourth-inning run with a triple for the Pirates (4-4). Cole Wadsworth had three hits and drove in a run; Holden Emerson had two hits. Agliano scored twice.  

Jackson allowed one hit and three walks — two walks coming in the seventh inning. Hunter Luedtke came on and gave up a walk and a two-run single to Dalton Cannon, then got the final out. Jackson struck out nine Loggers. 

Bransen Holzer had the other hit for Libby (2-4).


Bigfork 15, Noxon 0

NOXON — Hayden Mayer threw a five-inning two-hitter, striking out 11 and Ryder Hamilton had three hits as Bigfork downed Noxon. 

Hamilton went 3-forf-4 with two runs scored and two driven in for Bigfork (6-2). Mason Lewis had two hits, including a double, and had three RBIs.  

Holland Jantzen scored three times for the Vikings, who scored six times in the second inning and seven times in the fourth, ending the game early under the mercy rule. 

Mayer allowed doubles to Justin Kayser and Tyler Barton, walked one Red Devil and hit two with pitches. Noxon fell to 0-5. 


Corvallis 14, Ronan 0

RONAN — Ronan managed just three hits against a tandem of Corvallis pitchers, and the Blue Devils shortened the game to five innings. 

Maurice Craun hit a two-run home run for Corvallis 93-5) and Levi Leavitt had three hits and scored four times. 

Baylan Hess, Darrius Baltz and Everett Lozeau hit singles for the Chiefs (1-6). 


Polson 9, Libby 2
