Carl Boyd Dabel

Carl Boyd Dabel, 83, passed away on April 2, 2026, in Sandpoint, Idaho. 

He was born in Afton, Wyoming July 1, 1942 to parents William and Ruby Dabel. He lived a full life centered around his love for his family, the outdoors, and the simple moments that mattered most.

Carl was a man full of personality known for being stubborn at times, yet incredibly funny and warm-hearted. He had a tough exterior but a soft heart underneath, always showing kindness in his own way. Friendly and strong-willed, he left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

He found great joy in hunting, fishing and working on cars in his younger years, then turned that passion to photography capturing wildlife memories that his family will treasure forever. 

Above all, Carl loved spending time with his families, those moments meant everything to him. Carl proudly served his country in the military, with service beginning on Dec. 14, 1959, and concluding on June 28, 1968. During that time, he served in both the Army National Guard and the United States Navy, a commitment he carried with pride.

He was a proud father to Troy Dabel, Ricky Louis Dabel, Angie Dabel and Rick Dabel, along with all of his extended families and a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren. His families were his greatest accomplishment and joy in life. 

He is survived by three of his four children Troy, Angie and Rick, there are sisters Carol, Dona and Carma along with extended family members.

Carl will be remembered for his strength, his humor and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy will live on through the stories shared, the lessons he passed down and the love he gave so freely.

A grave side service to honor Carl’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Cemetery Road in Libby, Montana.
