As May marks National Foster Care Month, communities across the country are taking time to recognize the experiences of children and youth in foster care—and the people who step up to support them.

Here in Lincoln County, CASA of Lincoln County is at the heart of that effort, advocating for children who have experienced abuse or neglect and ensuring their voices are heard.

The Executive Director of CASA of Lincoln County, Keeli Anderson, shared that “Foster Care Month is both a time of awareness and reflection”. “While the challenges these children face are significant, so is their resilience”. “These are kids who have gone through incredibly difficult circumstances, yet they continue to show strength and hope,” the director explained. “Foster Care Month reminds us that they deserve consistency, support, and someone who will stand up for them.”

CASA volunteers serve as that consistent presence. Appointed by a judge, they advocate for a child’s best interests, helping guide decisions that impact their future. Whether it’s ensuring their best interests are being met, educational needs are available, supporting placement stability, or simply being a reliable adult in a child’s life, their role is critical.

The executive director emphasized that the need in the community remains strong.

“One volunteer can make a life-changing difference for a child," Anderson said. "When someone chooses to step into that role, they’re not just giving time—they’re giving a child a voice and a sense of stability.”

Beyond volunteering, community support plays a vital role in strengthening outcomes for children in foster care. From supporting foster families to raising awareness, every effort contributes to a network of care that helps children begin to heal and thrive.

As Foster Care Month is observed this May, CASA of Lincoln County encourages community members to learn more, get involved and be part of the solution—because every child deserves someone in their corner.
