Inspiring ocean films will soon fill the Heartwood Center this Friday as the Sandpoint Area Students Outdoor Adventure Club invites community members to learn about and support its efforts on marine restoration projects in the Dominican Republic.

The film festival begins at 7 p.m. and will include a silent auction and raffle, serving as the organization’s primary fundraiser for a student service trip to the Dominican Republic.

“Some of the films will be featured documenting how coastal communities come together to restore coral reefs, mangrove forests and mitigate the demands of tourism,” officials said.

Funds will support the club’s nine-day service trip in June, where students will travel across the northern coast of the Dominican Republic. In addition to visiting local sites, students will be engaging in coral reef restoration efforts, according to the trip guide.
