Thompson Falls’ A-Team of Addy, Aubrey and Alex – juniors Addy Deal and Aubrey Baxter with the girls and freshman Alex Newman with the boys – led Blue Hawk track and field teams in the Libby Invitational Saturday.

Behind the outstanding efforts of Deal, who won the pole vault (with a best-ever vault of 9-0) and discus (with a best-ever throw of 101-6), took second in the javelin (106-7) and third in the triple jump (30-6.5), and Baxter, who won second in the 400 meters (in 1:04.39), fourth in the 200 (in 29.20 seconds) and fifth in the discus (85-5), the Hawk girls scored 48 team points and finished third in team scoring in the Libby Invite, behind only Plains (100) and Charlo (54) in the 12-team meet.

Freshman Lexi Franck scored the Hawk girls’ other six team points by winning third in the 100 meter dash.

For his part, or should we say parts as he scored in four different individual events – winning the 200 meter dash in 24.17 seconds, placing second in the 400 in 54.68 and fifth in the 100 in 11.98, besides claiming fourth in the long jump with a best leap 18 feet, 8.75 inches – Newman led the Hawk boys to 33.5 team points, good for eighth place in final team scoring among 11 squads in Libby.

Brylon VanElswyk won third place in the javelin with a best effort 146-11, Jacobe Wood placed fifth in the discus with a best throw of 104-5, Weston Block placed sixth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:53.25, and Carson Kenney was sixth in the 200 meters for the Hawk boys’ other placing points.

Coach Trenna Ferris’s Hawks also competed in junior varsity meets in Libby and the Hawk boys won their 10-team meet with 78 points while the Lady Hawk JV scored seven team points and finished ninth in the girls’ JV meet.

The Hawks were set to host the annual Thompson Falls Invitational meet at Previs Field in Thompson Falls Tuesday. Look for the results of that meet in next week’s Mineral Independent-Valley Press.
