Cat netters emerge from the fog, hit the court Thursday

The fog is lifting, Superior tennis coach Rick Berreth says, and his Lady Cats are finally starting to see clearly now, giving him high hopes for the rest of the season.
Overcoming general team illness which has cost many on the team significant playing time and valuable matches, and a lingering injury issue with the team’s No. 1 singles player Josie Crabb, Berreth said Superior is set to play twice this coming week, at Troy Thursday and at Anaconda and Butte Central Saturday.
The Cats did not play last week due to the high school music festival.
This week’s action will be the first for Crabb since she went down with a stress fracture midway through the basketball season. Now a junior, Josie placed at the State B-C meet last spring and looked to lead the team again before suffering the setback.
“She seems to be getting better and better in her rehab,” Berreth said, adding that Crabb also is recovering from rather severe illness, something that has affected much of his team the past several weeks. That includes senior Perri Jasper, who after recovering from her own bout with illness has filled the No. 1 singles role capably for Superior in Crabb’s stead lately.
“Perri is 3-1 playing No. 1 singles for us after recovering from bronchitis,” Berreth said, noting that Jasper played on the Cats’ No. 1 doubles team the last two seasons advancing to the state tournament quarterfinals each season.
Berreth added that before Crab and Jasper returned, freshman Kamryn Church also filled in successfully at No. 1 for Superior, winning several matches with her effective all court game.
