Judith Stebbins, “Judy,” 83 of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, passed away Monday, April 13, 2026. Judy was born in Spokane, Wash., on a very snowy Jan. 10, 1943, to Reuben and Edith Pederson. She spent her school years in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where she was active in band and orchestra, Campfire, and church. She spent many of these years surrounded by an extensive extended family, enjoying picnics, potlucks and playing with cousins.
Judith attended North Idaho Junior College and the University of Idaho, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. While attending college, she met James Stebbins and they were married in August of 1965. Judith and James loved to travel, spend time with family and both continued to work on their education, with Judy receiving her Master's in 1969. In 1970, they adopted their daughter, Julita, and she was joined three years later by a son, Jamie.
Judith spent 37 1/2 years in Idaho Public Education, educating elementary-aged students. She was also active in the church choir, bible studies and PTA. She was an active member of the Panhandle and Idaho Reading Associations. Judith continued to spend time with family and hosted a number of family reunions, as family was extremely important to her. Judith became a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Sons of Norway. She continued to play piano, host family gatherings and travel to spend time with friends and family, which gave her great joy.
Judith is preceded in death by both of her parents, Reuben and Edith Pederson, and her beloved son, Jamie. She is survived by her ex-husband, James; daughter and son-in-law Julita and Mathew Carroll of Moscow; and her grandchildren, D'Artagnan Carroll of Spokane and Duncan and Hailey Carroll of Moscow.
Judith's celebration of life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 812 N. Fifth St., Coeur d'Alene, on May 1, 2026, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation (www.domain=wish.org) or Shriners Children’s Hospital (www.shrinerschildrens.org).
