LAKE COUNTY Election Administrator Notice of Annual School and Special Purpose District Election Public Test of Voting Systems, Counting of Mail-Ballots, Counting of Provisional Ballots, and County Canvass Notice is hereby given by the Lake County Election Administrator, State of Montana that the Annual School District and Special Purpose District Election will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, by mail ballot. Ballots must be returned by mail or in person at the Election Office (Dave Stipe Annex Building, 500 1st Street E, Polson, MT 59860) between the hours of 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM from April 16th - May 4th and 7:00 AM -8:00 PM on Election Day, May 5th. Polson Rural Fire District Levy: Shall the trustees be authorized to impose a new levy, which shall take the place of the expiring levy? The total amount of the levy is approximately $250,000.00 per year. The purposes for which the money will be used are set forth in Section 7-33-2109, MCA, namely, maintenance and procurement of fire protection facilities including insurances, brush trucks, command car, engines for main structure fires, water tenders and pumper trucks; emergency response apparatus, including safety equipment and rescue equipment. The duration of the levy is limited to seven (7) years. If approved the fiscal impact is estimated at: $6.86 per year on a home with a market value of $100,000.00; $20.57 per year on a home with a market value of $300,000.00 and $47.08 per year on a home with a market value of $600,000.00. An increase in property taxes may lead to an increase in rental costs. Ballots will be automatically mailed to all qualified electors on April 15, 2026. A qualified registered elector who will be absent from the district during the time the election is being conducted may: a) vote in person in the election administrator’s office as soon as the ballots are available and until noon the day before the ballots are scheduled to be mailed; b) make a written request, signed by the applicant and addressed to the election administrator, that the ballot is mailed to an address other than the address that appears on the registration application. If you miss this regular registration deadline on April 6th, you may still register for the election by appearing in person at the Lake County Election Office until 8:00 pm on election day. The following events are open to the public and will take place at the Dave Stipe Annex Building in Conference Room #106. Public testing of the ExpressVote Voting System and DS450 tabulator will be held at 10:00 am on April 30, 2026. Preparation and counting of ballots cast for the May 6, 2025, School Special District Election will begin Tuesday, May 5th at noon. Results will not be released until after 8:00 pm on Election Day. Observers must check in with the election office to be escorted to the counting location.
