BONNERS FERRY— 9B Strong, a political organization based in Boundary County, will be hosting a local candidate forum on April 28 at 6 p.m. The event will be at the Boundary County Middle School cafeteria.

Candidates for the contested elections of Boundary County Commissioner, Boundary County Clerk and first district judges have been invited.

9B Strong said in a press release that local government forms the foundation of our republic.

“With the United States celebrating its two hundred fiftieth year, 9B Strong is working to increase citizen participation in local government,” the statement said. “9B Strong believes that strong communities are the result of each of us working together to support our institutions and our local government. Working together for what we value makes our community stronger.”

The list candidates invited to participate are Boundary County Commissioner candidates, Tim Bertling and Debra Henderson, County Clerk candidates Pam Barton, Kimberly Kichenmaster and Stacie Watts and First District Judge candidates Benjamin Allen and Lisa Chesebro.

According to forum moderator Dave Anderson, the decision to sponsor a local forum came about because 9B Strong feels an obligation to give candidates for local office an opportunity to present their vision for the county to the voting public.

“By attending the forum, Boundary County voters will learn about the roles of local elected officials and the impact of legislation on local control,” the statement said. “Attempts by the legislature to impose more regulations on local government make this event an important one for the informed voter to attend.”
