The Downtown Sandpoint Business Association, also known as the Downtown Sandpoint Shopping District, has experienced significant growth and transformation over time. What began as a small group focused on highlighting the charm of our downtown has evolved into a collective of businesses working together to ensure the town thrives and remains vibrant.

The DSBA began as a small volunteer group with fewer than 20 participants. Through dedication and teamwork, it has grown to 41 members across various businesses, reflecting its strong commitment to the community and its success.

Each year, the DSBA takes pride in organizing engaging events that not only bring enjoyment to our community but also offer support to local non-profit organizations. These events serve as an opportunity to give back and to highlight the vital work of nonprofits that contribute in so many meaningful ways.

Over the past year, our group has faced several challenges that have impacted both our businesses and the broader community. One significant issue was the introduction of paid parking. While this was not a change we desired for the families who frequent our downtown, enjoying the shops and excellent restaurants, we made our voices heard at meetings regarding the proposal. Although the final decision was made by the city council, we are grateful to have collaborated with Jason Welker, the City Planner, and for our perspectives to be considered. The outcome was a compromise, and we remain dedicated to making our community both beautiful and accessible for everyone.

The DSBA has joined the Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce again this year for something a bit different. We are happy to be in a partnership with what they are bringing to our community at a level we have not been before. You can see it and feel it when the whole downtown area sponsors the events; the collaboration is such a wonderful part of what we are doing now.

Some events that are our staples, we will continue to do. October Apple Fest, November Black Friday, November Shop Small Saturday, December Ladies Night, February Winter Carnival, April Spring Fling, July Crazy Days, and September Sandpoint Showdown. We, as a community, love to help support LOST IN THE ’50s, which happens on the 3rd week in May.

Marketing partnerships have played a major role in our success. For example, we've collaborated with BlueSky Broadcasting, Sandpoint's Best Life, The Daily Bee, Go Sandpoint, and Keokee Media.

By working closely with these respected local media organizations, we have amplified our message, reached a wider audience, and encouraged greater participation in downtown events and initiatives. These collaborations help us promote not only our businesses but also the spirit of community that defines downtown Sandpoint.

The Downtown Sandpoint Shopping District warmly welcomes new members year-round. Whether you are a business owner or community supporter, there is always an opportunity to join and contribute to the ongoing vibrancy of our downtown. If you are interested in becoming a member, please reach out to Leilani Williams at [email protected] or call 808-780-2079.

Our group firmly believes that we achieve more together than we ever could individually. By collaborating, we strengthen our community, enhance our events, and support one another for the greater good of Sandpoint.
