Grace Viola Leidt, 92
Bonners Ferry Herald | UPDATED 1 hour, 21 minutes AGO
Our beloved mother, grandma, great-grandma, great-great-grandma, aunt, cousin and friend passed away on Tuesday, March 17, in her home on Grumpy Lane from kidney disease.
Grace was born on April 24, 1933, to Clarence and Mary Schuon in the family home at 126 Virginia St. in Carlton, Michigan. Grace was the fifth of five children born to Mary and Clarence. In 1945, Grace along with her family moved to Bonners Ferry.
From her marriage to William H. Gillespie she had two children, Deborah and Maryann. From her marriage to William D. Frans, she had three children, Edith, David and Billie Jean. Grace was also married to Roland Spurgeon until his death and Frank (Red) Leidt until his death.
Most of Grace’s work history was in the Community Hospital here in Bonners Ferry. She worked as a nurse's aide, a ward clerk, a cook and lastly the office manager.
She enjoyed taking trips back to see her relatives in Michigan. She crocheted and many of her children and grandchild enjoyed from her efforts. Books were another one of her joys and she read until her eyes couldn’t see the print anymore. When she figured that she was old enough to go to the Senior Hospitably Center, she found her second home. She enjoyed being on the board of directors, playing bingo and playing cards.
Grace is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Melvin) Wood, Maryann Frans and Edith (Ronald) Erickson; and her son, David Frans; and son-in-law, Jeff Hubbell; her grandchildren, Janice McUne (Ben F Cook IV), Joshua (Jacqueline) Frans, Janell Frans, Brandon (Claudia) Erickson, Jenna (Kolton) Koppa, Kristyn (Chris) Cardinaletti, Megan (Alex) Bergstrom, Rachel Hubbell, and Jacob Hubbell; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Irene Vandenberg; her brothers, Clarence (Shiner) Schuon Jr., George Schuon and James Schuon; and a daughter, Billie Jean Hubbell.
Our family would like to give special thanks to Eden Hospice for the tender loving care she received from them. Without their help we couldn’t have kept Mom in her own home until her death.
There will be a celebration of life for Grace on July 25, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., cookies and drinks at the Senior Hospitably Center. Please come and share your stories and how you met her to the family. We would love to hear them. Any memorials may be given to the Senior Hospitality Center.
