ICL invites community to Earth Day cleanup

SANDPOINT — Progress does not happen in silence, but when people show up.  

This year’s Earth Day theme, “our power, our planet,” demonstrates that environmental advancements are not dependent on any single administration or election, according to EarthDay.org. While the nationwide celebration of Earth Day occurred April 22, many organizations are taking this weekend as an opportunity to gather and host events in honor of the holiday.  

Idaho Conservation League and the city of Sandpoint are embodying that theme as they welcome community members to its Earth Day shoreline cleanup at Sandpoint City Beach on Sunday, April 26, from 9 to 11 a.m. 

The annual event will celebrate Earth Day by hosting cleanup efforts alongside the walkways of City Beach and the Sand Creek and Pend Oreille Bay trails.  

Volunteers will meet at the City Beach pavilion at 9 a.m. to check in, grab any necessary supplies and choose a trail. Two hours later, community members will meet back at the pavilion for coffee from Evans Brothers Coffee and pastries from Winter Ridge Natural Foods.  

The event will take place rain or shine. Volunteers are encouraged to wear shoes that can get muddy and are encouraged to bring their own small trash bags and reusable items such as gloves and trash pickers. Extra supplies will be available for pick up at the City Beach pavilion. 

All trash will be collected by the city.
